Getting verbal pledges from two on the same night is some coup.
DBR learned late Friday night that a pair of Detroit Northwestern teammates - point guard Eric Evans and forward Shawntez Patterson - are now off the board.
Evans, the city's No. 3 overall player and the metro-area's top uncommitted prospect, and Patterson, also a top senior, are Atlantic-10 bound after pledging their services to coach Ron Everhart and the Duquesne Dukes.
Evans, an aggressive 5-10 point guard, averaged 23.8 points and 7.1 assists last year for Northwestern and coach Steve Hall en route to earning DBR All-PSL Dream Team honors.
Despite his size, the jet-quick Evans is equally capable of finishing at the basket, pulling up for a long-range jumper or making a spectacular pass.
Patterson, a bouncy 6-6 forward, was ineligible for the first half of the high school season but was a presence down the stretch for Hall and the Colts.
Next year, Evans and Patterson will compose the entire Michigan contingent on a Duquesne team that is currently devoid of players from the Great Lakes State.
Last season, the Dukes finished 10-19 overall and 6-10 in the A-10, losing to Saint Louis 78-77 in the first round of the A-10 Tournament.
DBR will have more on these commitments in the near future.
